Apple is preparing its new range of smartphones for the upcoming fall season. A leaked photo shows a striking design difference between two models. The iPhone 17 Air could become one of the thinnest phones ever offered by the brand.
Every year, leaks about future iPhones multiply well before their official presentation. Technical diagrams, cases, models, or digital renderings circulate on social networks. These elements often give a fairly reliable idea of the final design. For Apple, whose communication remains very closed, these indiscretions fuel discussions several months in advance, particularly among fans of design and new aesthetics.
A new example has just been shared by a renowned leaker. In the published image, we see two models side by side Side by side: the iPhone 17 Air and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. These mock-ups are created from industrial plans from the production line. Although they are non-functional, they allow comparison of formats, thicknesses, and general lines. This time, it's mainly the 17 Air that's attracting attention.
The iPhone 17 Air would be 42% thinner than the iPhone 17 Pro Max
According to the information shared, the iPhone 17 Air would measure only 5.84 mm thick. For comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro Max would reach 8.3 mm, a difference of 42%. This new model would replace the current iPhone 16 Plus and would offer a 6.55-inch screen. It would retain essential functions such as wireless charging and compatibility MagSafe, without however being part of the Pro range. This thinner format could appeal to those looking for a lighter phone in the hand, without sacrificing the quality of the finish. This new model could also mark a change of strategy in the range, with a positioning more focused on design than on raw power. Apple would thus seek to attract a wider audience, sensitive to aesthetics and comfort of use.
For now, these mockups reveal nothing about the internal components. However, rumors suggest a performance boost on the Pro models, with more RAM and improvements to the camera sensors. If Apple follows its usual schedule, the iPhone 17 lineup should be made official in September. By then, the WWDC conference scheduled for June will give a preview of iOS 19, the future iPhone operating system.
