This initial episode brought together 5.3 million American viewers in total between HBO and Max. Only the very first episode of House of the Dragon did better with 9.98 million viewers in front of their screens on the day of its release. The launch of the first season of TLOU was followed by 4.7 million people across the Atlantic. Proof that the quality of the first season has strengthened the craze surrounding the series.
Deadline points out that season 1 of The Last of Us attracted a total of nearly 32 million viewers in the United States. This is simply the best historical audience for a first season of an HBO and Max series.
Note that the audience for the first season 1 exploded by 150% between the week of April 7 and the previous week. A sign that latecomers wanted to get up to speed before the release of season 2... and that viewers wanted to refresh your memory.
The second season of The Last of Us takes place five years after the events of the previous season.
