Sony has finally unveiled a video showing the PS5 from every angle, and revealing its internal components in the process. Between optimized cooling and redesigned components, a lot has changed.
Sony has finally lifted the veil on the interior of the PS5 Pro, revealing technical improvements that go beyond a simple makeover. While the exterior design remains faithful to the lineage, the bowels of the console hide fixes and innovations supposed to boost performance... and calm the fan hum.
The redesigned shell integrates black blades around the edge, not just for style. They increase airflow, while an enlarged air outlet evacuates heat faster. An ingenious detail: a sort of fin-shaped "vent", wedged between the white case and the heart of the console, is said to reduce the noise of the cooler. The whole thing is completed by an oversized radiator, equipped additional heat pipes to better disperse the temperature. This should give us hope for good performance in the long term.
A better ventilated underbelly, boosted components
The disassembly also confirms some classics: dust cover, Blu-ray player connector, M.2 SSD slot and button battery compartment. But the real star is the fan. Its curved blades and added mini-blades promise lower decibels, even at full speed.
Another big improvement: goodbye to leaking coolant. On older models, placing the console on Vertically, the thermal paste, present here in the form of metallic liquid, could melt, especially if it was moved too much. The PS5 Pro corrects this with micro-grooves on the application surface, stabilizing cooling without the risk of leakage.
On the power side, the motherboard has been reworked to accommodate PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), an AI-based upscaling that requires dedicated circuitry. The power lines and internal layers have been optimized to route signals more efficiently, boosting the memory. Eight original RAM modules have been upgraded to high speed, while a ninth chip handles less urgent tasks. Despite these improvements, sales of the PS5 Pro have stalled after a good start, far from the records of the PS4 Pro.
