When we talk about donuts, you probably immediately think of Homer Simpson, for whom it is one of his great passions, or Robert Downey Jr. inside a giant donut-shaped sign in Iron Man 2. This pastry, already present in our country with the Krispy Kreme brand, will arrive under the logo of its American leader, Dunkin'. On May 14, the brand, whose colorful, perforated donuts are everywhere in the United States, will open its first boutique in Paris, at 19 Boulevard Montmartre in the 9th arrondissement. For this grand arrival in France, the company has chosen a 200m2 location, according to our colleagues at Capital. A few days later, Dunkin' will open a second coffee shop, at 13 rue d'Amsterdam, near Gare Saint Lazare. So it's the Right Bank that the giant plans to export (to begin with).

Is there a donut market in France?

The chain's expansion will not be limited to the capital, as Jean-Wilfrid Thibault, head of Dunkin', explains. France:

We plan to open several dozen stores between 2025 and 2026 in Paris and the Île-de-France region before setting out to conquer other urban areas.

We can therefore imagine coffee shops popping up in Lyon, Rennes, Marseille, Toulouse, and Bordeaux in the coming months. The goal? To capture the French donut market, which according to Sirha Food, was valued at €30 million in 2023, and promises growth of 15% per year. In comparison, the French bakery, Viennese pastries, and patisserie (BVP) market is estimated at to more than 10 billion euros. But the brand will not be limited to these donuts, since it will also offer sandwiches, drinks and cookies, like Columbus or Starbucks. In terms of flavors, no fewer than 18 donut references adapted to the French palates will be offered to customers, between 2.5 and 3.7 euros per unit.

A taste pleasure that will make as many happy as those reluctant... And you, will you try their donuts?
