Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook: Microsoft unveils the new icons for its Office suite

The Office application icons as we know them today look like they were launched yesterday. However, they were introduced by Microsoft six years ago. This is clearly a long enough period for Microsoft to decide to give them a facelift.

In a survey sent by email to some of these customers, the Redmond firm asked them for their opinion on the new icon design for some of its Office applications, in exchange for a voucher. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and other applications in the Office suite will see their icon design evolve.

Depth for a more modern look

On Reddit, a user by the name of jbgski has created a visual grouping together several of these redesigned icons. Contacted By WindowsLatest, jbgski has provided a visual of all the icons, allowing you to see the changes made by Microsoft.

We can see that Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, SharePoint, and Defender feature icons that reflect their current design, to which a depth effect has been added thanks to a new color palette.

Since Microsoft is currently conducting its small survey with a select group of customers, the design of these new icons has not yet been confirmed. We will probably have to wait a few more months before the Redmond company makes them official and deploys them within its Microsoft 365 suite.
