After Gmail, Notion attacks Google Workspace

Notion has established itself among fans of to-do lists and spreadsheets, but the company wants to go further. After adding artificial intelligence and rolling out Notion Mail, the multi-platform productivity solution aims to appeal to professionals. Cross-functional search, automated note-taking, report generation, and the massive use of AI... the company's strategic shift is definitely aiming to overshadow the Google Workspace suite.

AI at work

To automate repetitive tasks, generate content with a single click, or conduct research, AI has established itself as a new all-purpose assistant. Three years after the boom in generative AI, the promise of increased productivity often remains unfulfilled, especially in the professional world. Determined to tread on Google's toes, Notion AI for Work presents itself as an all-in-one suite of AI tools, natively integrated into the collaborative workspace. Objective: to centralize the power of AI, reduce cognitive load and accelerate decision-making, without multiplying solutions or costs.

What's new?

Notion AI will offer several major new features for professionals and businesses.

Automated note-taking

The “AI Meeting Notes” feature aims to replace external tools like Plaud and NotebookLM, establishing itself as an intelligent meeting assistant. Capable of transcribing discussions in real time, generating structured summaries and automatically extracting action items. The goal of this feature will be to centralize everything in a document that can be instantly viewed and shared in Notion.

Unified Search

With Enterprise Search, Notion aims to offer a cross-platform search engine capable of aggregating information from multiple applications (Slack, Google Drive, Github, Jira, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Gmail, Salesforce, Zendesk, etc.). Users can ask open-ended questions and receive concise answers, enriched with citations and direct links to relevant documents, via pages verified by trusted collaborators.

Research Mode

Research Mode goes further, generating detailed reports from all connected sources, including the web. Using your work and external sources from the web, the company plans, analyzes in depth, and produces summaries ready to be shared.

Direct access to AI models

Notion now integrates the GPT-4.1, Claude 3.7 Sonnet models into a new dedicated space, which allows you to communicate with AI, launch searches, or configure intelligent databases, without leaving the work environment. This avoids tedious back-and-forth between tools, in favor of a fluid and centralized experience.

One of Notion's key selling points lies above all in its single subscription. Where the proliferation of AI tools can quickly increase the cost, the company offers to centralize everything.

Security and confidentiality

Notion also emphasizes data protection: opening up to professional clients logically means increased security. No information is used to train AI models by default, and data residency options in Europe are being rolled out to meet the regulatory requirements of international companies. By centralizing search, note-taking, report generation, and access to cutting-edge AI, Notion AI for Work aims to become the reference platform for knowledge management and augmented collaboration.
