Apple Intelligence may soon include Gemini, in addition to ChatGPT

The majority of Apple Intelligence functions are processed by AI models developed by the Apple company, either locally directly on the device, or on the company's servers. They can, however, be assisted by ChatGPT, in Siri, or even writing assistance tools. The integration of OpenAI's bot could prove to be a real help, especially with Siri, which is still struggling to do its job.

But more choice never hurts. Sundar Pichai was called to the stand yesterday, during the trial opposing Google to the US government. The search engine was found guilty of abusing its dominant position last summer in the online search market; the current trial must determine the remedies necessary to put an end to this. There is strong talk of a split with Chrome.

The CEO of Google and parent company Alphabet revealed that he had several discussions last year with Tim Cook, his Apple counterpart. The issue: the addition of Gemini alongside ChatGPT in Apple Intelligence. He hopes that the negotiations will allow Google's technology to take its first steps in the middle of the year - perhaps there will be an announcement during WWDC in early June?

Apple and Google are obviously sometimes fierce competitors, but they are also partners. The firm Apple has made Google the default search engine in Safari, an agreement that also allows it to generate substantial revenue for its "services" business. The current trial may put an end to this check: this practice was at the heart of Google's conviction last year.

This didn't stop the web giant from doing it again earlier this year, paying "huge sums of money" to Samsung to pre-install Gemini in its smartphones. Will Google do it again with Apple Intelligence?
