Apple wants you to say goodbye to Android…and never look back

If you're planning to ditch your Android smartphone for an iPhone, rejoice. Apple has just released a major update to Move to iOS, its Android-to-iOS data migration app. This significantly improves data transfer speeds, but more importantly, it allows you to migrate new data.

A Faster and More Complete Migration

With this update, labeled 4.0.2, Apple intends to give a helping hand to Android users who want to transfer data from their old smartphone to their brand-new iPhone. With this update, the Cupertino company has optimized the data transfer process. Wired data migration (using a USB-C or USB-C to Lightning cable) should thus become faster. Apple also indicates that it is now possible to connect the two devices via Wi-Fi or a personal hotspot. To help you pass the time during the data migration, tips for using iOS are also provided.

But the most interesting thing about this update is undoubtedly the support for new data. Migrate to iOS can now import your call history as well as the label associated with your SIM cards. And that's not all. The Android to iOS data transfer app can now export your voice recordings to integrate them directly into the iOS Voice Memos app, or into the Files document manager, depending on the recording format.

Updates for Migrate to iOS that are also provided are rather rare. The last time such a major update was released was in 2022, when Apple worked hand in hand with Meta to allow users to easily migrate their WhatsApp conversations from an Android smartphone to an iPhone.

Apple isn't the only one offering a solution to make it easier for users to switch from one mobile OS to another. Google offers a similar solution, Move to Android, recently renamed Android Switch.
