Ubisoft has decided to take its time. During its financial results presentation, the French publisher announced the postponement of several of its major franchises. The goal is simple: to improve the quality of its games. And clearly, this decision is already starting to bear fruit. Is Splinter Cell Remake affected?
Splinter Cell Remake takes its time
Announced in 2021, the Splinter Cell remake is moving forward slowly but surely. Known internally by the code name "North," the project is one of the titles Ubisoft has chosen to postpone. According to several sources, it's unlikely to arrive until 2026, or even later. This is explained, in particular, by the ever-informed Tom Henderson. The man, however, uses the conditional, so there remains a small chance that this is indeed not 100% the case
In any case, this postponement of Splinter Cell is not necessarily bad news. Ubisoft explains that it has adopted a new strategy, less haste, more care. And the publisher takes the example of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, whose prolonged development has made it one of the best-received games of recent years. The idea is therefore clear: avoid botched releases and relaunch major licenses with truly solid games.
New strategy
Splinter Cell Remake isn’t the only one affected. The next Far Cry has reportedly been postponed to the end of 2026, while a new Ghost Recon, in development under the codename "Ovr", has also been pushed back. Clearly, Ubisoft is taking its foot off the gas on its biggest franchises. The 2025-2026 fiscal year is therefore looking relatively quiet. But the studio is promising a real comeback starting in 2026, with more accomplished titles.
The Splinter Cell remake is under particular scrutiny. For over ten years, the series has remained dormant, despite real public expectation. The choice to start from scratch with a remake gives hope for a modern reinterpretation, but faithful to the original DNA with infiltration, gadgets, and maximum tension. Ubisoft seems to want to do the right thing. And if it takes a few more years, fans will surely prefer that to a failed comeback. The studio has no room for error.
