Assassin's Creed Hexe: Are you waiting for a darker game? We have bad news for you

After generating a lot of buzz in the months leading up to its release, Assassin's Creed Shadows finally met with considerable success among players upon its release last March. A few days ago, it was therefore no great surprise that Ubisoft gave us a first glimpse of the franchise's future. The studio is planning a series of post-launch content designed to extend our adventure in feudal Japan. New quests, additional difficulty modes, new gameplay options... there will be plenty to do. So much the better, since the next installments could be a little longer than expected.

The release of Assassin’s Creed Hexe postponed internally?

This is what journalist Tom Henderson revealed via Insider Gaming, where he gave us a longer-term glimpse of the future of Assassin’s Creed. The opportunity then to learn that the publisher’s plans have evolved somewhat, and that the release of Assassin’s Creed Hexe would ultimately be further away than we thought. And for good reason, if the first rumors initially mentioned a possible release for the year 2026, it would seem that it is now rather a question of a release for 2027, this being planned to occur at the end of the two years of post-launch follow-up of Shadows.

Let us remember, however, that at the time of writing, Ubisoft has still not really started to communicate around this Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which remains a code name likely to evolve. All that we know since its officialization in 2022 is that it will be an intermediate episode developed by Ubisoft Montreal and that it will immerse players in Europe of the 16th century, with a witch hunt context. It should thus explore a darker aspect of the franchise in an adventure which, like Assassin’s Creed Mirage, will not have an RPG dimension.

A full future for the franchise

According to Henderson, Hexe should not be the next installment in the Assassin’s Creed catalog. Three other games are expected before it, namely Assassin's Creed Jade, a mobile episode set in China, Assassin's Creed Invictus, a sort of Falls Guys in the colors of the franchise, and finally Assassin's Creed Obsidian, the famous remake of the much-loved Black Flag. And this is just a first sample of the future of Ubisoft's golden goose, which is said to have no fewer than nine games planned in the next six years. Yes, there should be plenty to do...
