After a rather satisfactory launch for Assassin's Creed Shadows, Ubisoft continues to support its latest major production. The studio had taken care to postpone the game for the best possible optimization upon release. By doing so, it can continue to refine its copy here and there without relaunching a huge project. Thus, it can even allow for small new features that sometimes go unnoticed. However, they add even more gameplay comfort.
Assassin's Creed Shadows takes to the skies
With this new Assassin's Creed installment, Ubisoft is trying to bring together the best of both worlds. In fact, Shadows aims to reconcile the stealth and agility of the first installments with the more down-to-earth action we've known since Origins. This approach may not yet be the ideal formula for convincing two audiences, each accustomed to a different way of approaching gameplay. Nevertheless, it has the advantage of highlighting specific features that were the very essence of the franchise before being forgotten in recent games.
Among these specific features, we essentially find parkour. This practice of "free running" invites players to overcome obstacles and climb urban and natural settings. However, it is an intrinsic part of the identity of Assassin's Creed. Due to the new dynamic initiated by Shadows, the Ubisoft teams have set about restoring the franchise's reputation in this regard through the character of Naoe.
Thus, players can once again enjoy a real parkour experience. What's more, the experience continues to improve in this area. Following a discovery brought to light by YouTuber and specialist Ropotopolous, the teams admitted they had started reworking free running. Since the latest update, movement is more instinctive and jumps are better managed to move from one surface to another.
This is just the first step in optimizing Assassin's Creed Shadows' parkour. Ubisoft has already teased more to come in this area at the end of the month. The next patch should therefore radically improve the way we explore the landscapes as Naoe. Little by little, we seem to be finally getting closer to the Watch Dogs 2-style parkour experience. This other Ubisoft production still serves as a benchmark in the field nine years after its release.
