It's the kind of announcement you don't see coming. This summer, Ezio Auditore, cult figure from Assassin's Creed, will make his big comeback... but not in a Ubisoft game. He's joining Reverse: 1999, a turn-based mobile RPG, a far cry from the Italian Renaissance. And yet, it's taking off.
A surprising, but promising collaboration for Assassin's Creed
The partnership between Ubisoft and the Chinese studio Bluepoch Games has just been made official. Result: Ezio, but also Kassandra and Alexios (the heroes of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey), will arrive in Reverse: 1999 starting in August 2025. This crossover will launch simultaneously in all countries, with identical rewards and content for all players. A real desire to unify the community.
The Assassin's Creed event will take place in two distinct phases. First, head to Florence during the Renaissance. The opportunity to find Ezio in a familiar setting, but with gameplay redesigned in the Reverse: 1999 style. Then, head to ancient Greece. Kassandra and Alexios will take over for a new adventure that promises a total change of scenery. All in a unique graphic style and a universe that mixes time travel, strategy, and storytelling.
An original way to revive Ezio
Ezio's return in such a different game may come as a surprise. But it proves how popular this character remains, even fifteen years after his debut in Assassin's Creed II. It's also a sign that the franchise is ready to explore new formats to reach a wider audience. And with over 30 million players since its launch in late 2023, Reverse: 1999 is a logical choice to shine a spotlight on this type of crossover. This might inspire Ubisoft to do a little more with this character, and perhaps one day offer a complete remake of the second episode.
