Blades of Fire: This Souls-like from the Metroid Dread studio promises to be a big hit

Among the video game releases to watch for this month of May 2025, Blades of Fire, developed by MercurySteam (Metroid Dread), could stand out in the very rich world of action-RPGs with a Souls-like component. Expected on May 22 on PC (exclusively on the Epic Games Store), PS5 and Xbox Series, this title, focusing a large part of its gameplay on the forge, tells us a little more about its story and its characters in a fiery trailer.

Blades of Fire se forge une bande annonce qui met le feu

Carving out a place in the "Soulsesque" action-RPG genre is not easy these days. However, Blades of Fire could make its mark and leave its mark on its little world with a hot iron. In addition to gameplay that presents a certain requirement in combat, with dodges and parries to be placed at the right time, good management of stamina and good reading of the movements of your opponents to avoid dying, the title from the studio behind Metroid Dread adds a new, particularly original touch: the forging of your equipment.

The universe of Blades of Fire was born from the Forgers, giants who shaped humans many centuries ago. We play as Aran, son of the Commander of the Empire Guard, who has a hint of these ancestral powers, and can therefore forge powerful magical weapons. The crafting aspect of the game is therefore absolutely central, with the possibility of creating a whole arsenal of weapons that will have to be maintained at a forge. Each parry and blow will reduce its effectiveness, forcing us to be even more careful in managing our equipment.

Accompanied by the scribe Adso, our warrior blacksmith must travel across an Empire in the grip of war to save (or overthrow if the need arises) his childhood friend, Queen Nera, originally a bastion of hope, who has become a tyrannical ruler corrupted by a dark necromantic evil. The scene is thus set and the steel is ready to sing for a Blades of Fire to watch closely, and expected this May 22 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
