Instead of September 23, 2025, Borderlands 4 has confirmed an earlier release date of September 12 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series during a dedicated State of Play featuring 20 minutes of gameplay. Gearbox and 2K's communications machine is now in full swing, including the offer of free content ahead of its launch in just four months.
Free brutal content ahead of the release of Borderlands 4
Six years after Borderlands 3 and three years after the spin-off Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, Vault Hunters of all stripes will finally be able to return to Gearbox's iconic looter-shooter franchise with Borderlands 4. This new installment is, according to its developers, "the most ambitious and accomplished installment in the series." This is thanks in particular to various new movement mechanics, new characters to embody and build according to your desires, and more advanced weapon customization than in previous installments.
Speaking of weapons, it is already possible to secure a free skin while waiting for the release of Borderlands 4 on September 12. This is a skin for the Hazard Pay assault rifle. To take advantage of it, everything goes through the SHiFT program, already used extensively in previous installments of the franchise. Here are the steps to follow to get this weapon skin for free on Borderlands 4, with a very distant expiration date of the offer, set for December 31, 2030:
- Create a SHiFT account for free, or log in to an existing account via this link;
- Link your favorite platforms in the "Game Platforms" tab;
- Agree to receive news and promotional offers, and to stay subscribed to the Gearbox newsletter.
Once this is done, all that's left is to wait for the release of Borderlands 4 to add this weapon skin to your account and wear it out while slaughtering bandits with shovelfuls. Naturally, you will need to own the game to do this. Finally, note that, as in previous installments, having a SHiFT account will allow you to obtain other codes to use in this fourth episode. This could notably take the form of the famous golden keys to obtain loot via a chest in the central hub.
