Borderlands 4 will be released on September 12, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, 11 days ahead of the initial release date announced by Gearbox Software and 2K Games. Given the massive gameplay reveal, this installment looks like it's pulling out all the stops to deliver a truly faithful experience to the series, and one that could well reconcile those disappointed by Borderlands 3. And the best may be yet to come, according to a clarification from the developers. A nice surprise has already been announced before the release.
Borderlands 4 DLCs that will please
The State of Play for Borderlands 4 reassured many fans. An event that was very rich in gameplay and information of all kinds. Among the details of this presentation, we notably got a glimpse of the Vex Siren and the Rafa soldier. Two of the four playable characters in this opus. But then, Gearbox Software also subtly teased that there would be extras by declaring that these were two "two of the Vault Hunters available at launch" from Borderlands 4.
And "at launch" is the key term here. We learn that Borderlands 4 will indeed receive new Vault Hunters after release. "Gearbox is committed to expanding Borderlands 4 with free and paid content after its release, including two new playable Vault Hunters and additional narrative content," reads a post-release post on the Epic Games Store. The addition of Vault Hunters after release is already appealing to some who prefer it to additional skill trees.
While we wait to learn more, there's some free Borderlands 4 content on offer. It's not much, but a skin for the Hazard Pay assault rifle can be claimed until December 31, 2030. Yes, by then, we'll already be in the future on PS6 and Xbox Series 2. But at least it gives you time.
