Artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming a part of our daily lives. Now, ChatGPT, developed by Open AI, is proving to be a very practical everyday tool. However, sometimes people don't use it in the best possible way. Proof of this is this woman from Greece who relied on AI to do the unthinkable.
She has blind faith in ChatGPT and commits the worst
This may be the most unusual and improbable story you'll read today. And yet, it reflects the influence of artificial intelligence in our time. We invite you to travel to Greece, where a woman has just done the unthinkable by blindly trusting ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence developed by Open AI. As a reminder, this tool can answer any of your queries. Simply ask it a question, and the AI will provide you with an answer in seconds.
Here, a Greek woman who is a fan of tasseography, a divination method that allows you to read the future by interpreting the traces left by coffee grounds, decided to use ChatGPT. Thus, what was originally supposed to be a game with her husband took a completely different turn. The person concerned provided the AI with two photos of coffee grounds from her cup and her husband's cup. She asked artificial intelligence to interpret the patterns, and the answer was immediate: her husband would have an affair with someone whose first name begins with the letter E, and this relationship would destroy their family.
Without consulting him and taking this prediction seriously, the woman asked her husband to leave the marital home and initiated legal proceedings to separate from him.
Artificial intelligence at the origin of several tragedies
The case was reported by the Greek media, in which the husband explained that he thought it was a joke. He points out that this isn't the first time his wife has taken predictions seriously. In the past, a psychic had influenced him, nearly causing a separation. It took him a year to prove the psychic's predictions were wrong. The husband's lawyer points out that his client is so far innocent and emphasizes that "the absurdity of artificial intelligence does not stand up to justice." He will demand that the custody rights of the two minor children be challenged. It is unthinkable that a person who relies on an AI could be held responsible.
This is not the first time that AI has forced people to commit the unthinkable or irreparable. In 2023, a Belgian man took his own life after having spent several weeks talking to an artificial intelligence about the climate crisis, which allegedly led him to commit suicide. In the USA, a teenager committed suicide after becoming fond of an AI.
