Discover the new Netflix TV app interface

The Netflix TV app is getting a makeover: in the coming weeks and months, subscribers to the service will discover a brand new interface—a design that the industry leader has been testing and refining for several years. One of the significant changes is the navigation between the different sections of the app.

A simpler menu to find your way around

The side panel that hides the names of the sections will disappear. Netflix is rediscovering the simple joys of a menu at the top, without icons except for the search engine, all of which makes it easy to find what you're looking for. The company has kept things simple: Home, TV Shows, Movies, Games (compatible with smart TVs), and the My Netflix tab. The latter groups together the programs pinned in your personal list, reminders, and the list of programs to complete.

The categories haven't disappeared, they're in the search menu. The design of the pages has also evolved; the program covers are larger and the prominent visuals with their synopses make it easier to get an idea of the content. Netflix adds a noteworthy mention, such as an award (Oscar for Best Picture, etc.), the program's ranking, or the start time if it's a live event.

The famous Netflix algorithm recommendations now adapt live, based on the last search made in the app, or the recently played trailer. For example, you can get suggestions for content similar to searches on an actor and a genre.

Obviously, Netflix couldn't pretend that generative AI wasn't the buzzword of the moment. In the iOS app, the platform is experimenting with a new search engine that returns results based on a question asked in natural language (such as “I want something funny and joyful”).

In the coming weeks, the feed on the mobile apps' homepage will integrate vertical videos "à la TikTok." These videos will be short clips from films and series. It will of course be possible to start playing the program or add it to your viewing list.
