Disney to Open New Disneyland Park

As the Disneyland experience deteriorates over the years, and Tokyo Disneyland seeks to stand out from the crowd with a new expansion, Disney has announced the upcoming opening of a new Disneyland park. Indeed, the Walt Disney Company has announced that a theme park will open its doors, but it remains to be seen whether fans will respond.

A 7th Disneyland Park Officialized

This Wednesday, May 7, the Walt Disney Company officially announced the creation of a seventh Disneyland park. A park that will open its doors in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and more precisely on Yas Island. A first for the Walt Disney Company, which is making its mark in the Middle East. This announcement is not entirely surprising, as the Middle East has been diversifying its interests for several years, while injecting billions into local projects to boost its attractiveness.

And what better way to attract tourists than to open a Disneyland park on its own soil? The project is being carried out in partnership with Miral, a local tourism development giant. This Disneyland park in Abu Dhabi will feature attractions inspired by the iconic Star Wars universes, such as those from Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars. But of course, this park will try to take advantage of original areas and attractions, as if to differentiate itself from other parks and thus increase its attractiveness.

Unique experiences that must reflect the culture and heritage of Abu Dhabi are already planned. "This is an exciting moment for our company as we announce the construction of a Disney theme park in Abu Dhabi, a culture rich in appreciation of the arts and creativity," explained Robert A. Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, in a press release. "As our seventh theme park destination, it will rise from this earth in spectacular fashion, blending contemporary architecture and cutting-edge technology to offer visitors immersive entertainment experiences in a unique and modern way."

Don't be in a hurry, however, as no opening date has been announced. But estimates suggest the design phase could last 1 to 2 years, followed by 4 to 6 years of construction. An opening by 2030 could therefore be considered. It remains to be seen whether the deadlines will be met. In any case, Disney isn't getting too far ahead of itself; delays are commonplace for this type of colossal project. And if Disney didn't have to hesitate for long, it's because it's Miral who will finance, build, and operate the park.

Disney will manage the creative design and oversee operations. "This project represents a new frontier in theme park development," said Josh D’Amaro, president of Disney Experiences. "Our resort in Abu Dhabi will be the most advanced and interactive destination in our portfolio."
