Electric Citroën for less than 20,000 euros: it's finally here, this affordable ë-C3

In addition to a restyled Ami in early May, Citroën will launch its new Ö-C3 before the summer, priced at less than 20,000 euros, the entry-level version of the model, which until now was only available from 23,300 euros. Even if the ecological bonus allowed its price to be lowered below 20,000 euros, the electric city car reserved another configuration, even lighter, to display a shock price and attract the attention of smaller wallets, and those most resistant to electric cars 5,000 to 10,000 euros more expensive than their thermal cousins.

What are the technical characteristics of this new Citroën C3? First of all, let's mention its price: 19,990 euros precisely, excluding the ecological bonus. With state funding, its price will drop to 15,000 euros.

To save money, Citroën will first offer a smaller battery. This will only have a capacity of 30 kWh, a far cry from the 44 kWh capacity of the existing battery in the current range, which offers a WLTP range of 320 kilometers. According to Citroën, which has published a new press release on its entry-level electric C3, the range will now be 200 kilometers. To avoid paying too much, the battery once again uses cells from LFP chemistry.

Citroën ë-C3 at 19,900 euros: 200 km of autonomy, 30 kWh battery and 82 hp engine

Citroën therefore offers a battery even smaller than that of Renault on the R5 E-Tech (40 kWh) but larger than that of the Dacia Spring at 26.8 kWh. The Romanian city car (produced in China) nevertheless allows for a longer autonomy thanks to its narrower size: 225 km compared to 200 km. As for charging, it will be essential to go through the option box to equip the car with a fast charging socket, limited to 30 kW. A proposal reminiscent of Renault.

The city car's engine won't be 113 hp like the other versions, but 82 hp. An even smaller engine than what Renault will offer on its cheapest R5 E-Tech, at 95 hp. But once again, it's better than the Dacia Spring, which only offers 65 hp. The Citroën C3 therefore doesn't lose its main selling point against its rival: increased versatility.

On board, we'll have to wait for the arrival of this Citroën C3 at less than 20,000 euros to realize the elements that have disappeared. It is certain that the offer will be light, especially since the rest of the competition will not arrive until later, like the new Renault Twingo, planned for 2026. In the meantime, Citroën also plans to strengthen its offer with its C3 Aircross, this time offering a larger 54 kWh battery, in addition to the 44 kWh one.
