End of Windows 10: Word, Excel, Outlook… Microsoft 365 applications will continue to work

End of Windows 10: Word, Excel, Outlook… Microsoft 365 applications will continue to work

Last January, Microsoft formalized the end of support for its Microsoft 365 applications on Windows 10. Theoretically, the end of updates for these applications should coincide with the end of support for Windows 10, which will take place on October 14.

This is enough to make more than one person angry, especially since Microsoft had warned that from this date, Microsoft 365 applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive would stop working on PCs still running Windows 10.

Microsoft then explained that to continue using its Microsoft 365 applications, the upgrade to Windows 11 would become mandatory. But the Redmond company has, for some unknown reason, changed its mind.

Microsoft 365 apps updated until 2028 on Windows 10

This means that Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, etc.) were to receive updates until 2028.

Microsoft still wants you to upgrade to Windows 11

While the extension of support for Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10 is excellent news for users, it will not affect the end of support for Windows 10. Microsoft still hopes to get you to migrate to Windows 11 and gives arguments for it in another support document.

If your PC is not officially eligible for an upgrade to Windows 11, it is generally quite simple to install the latest version of Microsoft's OS on an incompatible PC. And if your PC's hardware configuration really doesn't allow it, there are always other solutions to stay on Windows 10 while continuing to benefit from security updates until 2032.
