Expecting a PlayStation Showcase? Prepare for some good news and some bad news

Expecting a PlayStation Showcase? Prepare for some good news and some bad news

Without it seeming so, we are almost at the gates of the summer conferences, which are a particularly popular time for gamers. Indeed, E3 may be over, but that doesn't stop the various publishers from communicating through their own means, whether through Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest or independent speeches. And while we still don't know the exact schedule that awaits us for the coming weeks, those waiting for a PlayStation Showcase could be disappointed.

No PlayStation Showcase in sight for this summer?

Indeed, questioned by Internet users on the ResetEra forums, insider NateDrake (also known as NateTheHate) revealed that he had not heard anything about any speech from PlayStation this summer. "Have you heard about a Sony show? Compared to last year, it's very quiet" one of the forum members asked him. To which he simply replied: "No". In fact, the latest State of Play dedicated to Borderlands 4 could be the last conference organized by Sony for a while.

Nevertheless, it must be emphasized that his answer remains rather ambiguous. Because as it stands, one could also very well assume that just because he hasn't heard anything from his side doesn't necessarily mean there won't be anything at all. Especially when we see that just last week, journalist Jeff Grubb claimed that PlayStation was still hesitating between organizing a PlayStation Showcase or a State of Play. The difference, then, being the nature of the content that would be presented, particularly on the first-party side. On the other hand, insider Harker, who also has a good track record when it comes to the brand, has heard talk of such an event, but rather for the start of the school year, in September. So could it only be a postponement for an even more impactful conference?

Sony's program still uncertain

So who should we believe? It's still difficult to say. In the past, both have already regularly proven the reliability of their information, even if Grubb would not be at his first mistake on his side either. In any case, we won't have to wait long to find out, since hostilities are expected to begin on June 6 with the launch of the Summer Game Fest. Unless PlayStation decides to speak out before then. By the end of May, for example, as it has done on numerous occasions before.

Otherwise, we'll have to bet on a speech for the start of the school year, probably around September. However, it remains to be seen whether we'll be treated to yet another State of Play, or whether the PlayStation Showcase format, which has been missing since 2023, will finally make its big comeback. Because, as it happens, there would undoubtedly be things to show from PlayStation Studios. Between Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Saros, Marvel’s Wolverine, the new Bend Studio license or even the next game from Santa Monica, there would be plenty to do.
