Criticism about remakes and remasters has been rife on social media in recent years. We can deny that a large number of remakes and reimaginings are emerging on the current generation, amidst all the original creations. However, these reiterations of a work can also be an opportunity to literally rediscover them in a new light, sometimes with divergences from the original work. This is particularly the case with FF7 Remake, whose fans are still waiting for the outcome promised by the third part. Information may have been discreetly released about it.
A surprising change for FF7 Remake 3?
A new feature has recently been revealed for Final Fantasy fans. It's the collaboration with the Magic the Gathering TCG. The first collector boosters were revealed at the end of March, while the new expansion continues to reveal itself less than a month before its arrival on the market. In all this, we were treated to a few glimpses of iconic FF7 characters.
Among these, one in particular caught the attention of fans: Sephiroth and his "Safer" form. The official FF7 X account highlighted the illustrations of Tetsuya Nomura, who is a concept designer on the remakes and creative director on Rebirth. Some may have noticed a few changes from the original design of the antagonist.
In fact, Nomura himself briefly explained the concept behind these illustrations. He designed them in such a way that they become one when combined. However, he acknowledges that Safer Sephiroth's character design is not the same as in FF7 Remake.
This time, I drew Sephiroth on both the front and back of the card. I actually drew them so that they would join if you placed them on top of each other, so if you managed to get two identical cards and line them up, you would see what the original illustration looked like.
There's also a reason why Safer Sephiroth's design is different from the original game, but unfortunately I can't say much more about that.

Nomura cannot comment further on this subject. This could therefore imply a link with an ongoing project, still under confidentiality agreement. From then on, we can only imagine that FF7 Remake 3's Sephiroth will experience variations compared to what we could initially expect. However, we will have to wait a little longer to find out for sure. Indeed, this third and final part has only been in production since 2024.
