Flight comparison site Kayak adds ChatGPT AI to its platform

Flight comparison site Kayak adds ChatGPT AI to its platform

The online travel search platform, which offers a flight comparison tool, has just launched a new AI platform. With OpenAI, the Kayak AI conversational agent aims to better understand how Internet users interact with artificial intelligence when it comes to finding cheaper plane tickets. On this platform, interested users will be able to converse with the OpenAI agent, the same one used on ChatGPT, with the specific feature of focusing on planes and live flight prices.

Kayak will make its data available, allowing users to check the best flight prices in real time. But rather than simply stating the prices of different airlines and routes between two destinations, Kayak AI will also suggest travel ideas, based on dates and budget. Via the conversational agent, users will simply have to ask questions and state their various search criteria. The platform will add the "most recent and comprehensive pricing information from over 400 providers, in a conversation-oriented format that travelers can trust," Kayak says.

On ChatGPT, OpenAI users can already use a Kayak GPT, and have done so for several months now. The platform has already offered special prompts on the American chatbot, as well as Air Track GPT and the popular Travel Planner. Find the list of the best GPTs on ChatGPT here.

The Kayak.ia platform is not an end in itself. It is certain that it will be able to retain more than one user, but Kayak does not intend to separate itself from its classic platform anytime soon. On the contrary, with the various requests posed to artificial intelligence, the company intends to analyze how its users interact and what information they would request from the AI, that they cannot obtain on the classic platform. Steve Hafner, CEO of Kayak, announced that "what users like about Kayak AI will gradually be rolled out across all Kayak platforms for all our travelers."

Internet users will obviously be able to ask questions about other types of transportation (trains, buses) but also about hotels, another part of the Kayak platform, in addition to car rentals.

And what does ChatGPT do as a flight comparison tool?

Currently, by asking ChatGPT to inform us of the cheapest flights, the AI displays several flights based on platforms like Kayak, but also Skyscanner. Prices are displayed with the essential information needed about the flight (apart from the flight number). Then, the chatbot offers advice on finding cheaper flights. It displays links to Kayak and Skyscanner "to find the best deals". No mention of Google Flight, Google's search engine, which also focuses on finding the best prices.
