Foundation: Apple TV+ unveils a teaser and a release date for season 3

All things come to those who wait, and it goes without saying that fans of Foundation have had to be patient. The famous science fiction series adapting Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series aired its final episode in September 2023. It will soon be two years of waiting, but Apple TV+ has finally decided to give us some news about season 3. The Cupertino streaming platform has just shared a first teaser that is far from empty-handed. In addition to epic images suggesting an ever-more grandiose spectacle, the short trailer also includes the release date of the first episode.

The wait will ultimately be shorter than expected. While some were already imagining a release date of late 2025, or even a postponement to 2026 following script revisions caused by budget cuts, the next batch of episodes of Foundation is finally coming this summer. This third season, consisting of 10 episodes, will air its first chapter on July 11, after which the rest of the program will be released at a rate of one episode per week, every Friday. This means that this new season will end on September 12th, enough to fill a good part of the summer.

What will season 3 be about?

Get ready for another time jump as the next episodes will take place 152 years after the season 2 finale. Here's what the official synopsis, revealed alongside the first teaser, promises:

The Foundation has established itself far beyond its humble beginnings, while the empire of the Cleonic Dynasty has dwindled. As these two galactic powers forge an uneasy alliance, a threat to the entire galaxy emerges in the fearsome form of a warlord known as ‘The Mule’, whose goal is to rule the universe using physical and military force, as well as mind control. Hari Seldon, Gaal Dornick, the Cleons and Demerzel are playing a potentially deadly intergalactic chess game, and no one knows who will win, who will lose, who will live, and who will die.

Will the series manage to offer us a sufficiently convincing spectacle despite the setbacks during its production? Between the Hollywood strikes of 2023 and the budget cuts that came later, the task was certainly not easy for the directors and screenwriters. For now, the beginnings of the upcoming scenario and the first images are nevertheless reassuring. See you on July 11 for the verdict.
