Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero… The gacha games from HoYoverse studio need no introduction, their exciting worlds and addictive gameplay have won over gamers around the world. But if you haven't yet succumbed to the charm of the Chinese video game giant's titles, its next production could well surprise you. HoYoverse took advantage of a commemorative concert, organized to celebrate the anniversary of Honkai Star Rail, to release the first teaser for the next Honkai game. And it goes without saying that these images did not fail to surprise the audience.
The clip lasts only about twenty seconds but still manages to paint a rather promising picture. With this new spin-off, the Honkai franchise is preparing to explore the monster-catching genre. In other words, HoYoverse is looking to launch its own Pokémon-like game. Very few official details have been shared by the studio regarding this project, but the first teaser and a few leaks already allow us to guess the basics of the upcoming game, starting with its title.
When Honkai heroes become trainers
The short trailer shown during the concert introduces us to Kiana and Blade – characters from Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai Star Rail respectively – alongside creatures that are still unknown to us. The concept couldn't be clearer: the various protagonists of the franchise will fight alongside these new companions. HoYoverse hasn't officially revealed the title of its new gacha game, but a little mischief on X (formerly Twitter) has already given us the answer. Accounts have just been opened under the name Honkai: Nexus Anima, a name also spotted in a trademark filing for the Korean market, which leaves little room for doubt.
Other leaks (though more difficult to confirm) suggest that the gameplay will revolve around an automatic combat system, reminiscent of Riot Games' famous Teamfight Tactics. Players will then have to capture and train creatures in order to build increasingly optimized teams. However, we'll have to wait for further official announcements before we know for sure. As a reminder, HoYoverse is currently working on a multitude of projects, as revealed in a job posting shared and translated on Reddit last year. Among the five projects mentioned, Nexus Anima will be the new title in the Honkai series, which leaves four other projects in development, namely a new open-world game, a life simulation, a multiplayer shooter, and a title set in a world both fantastic and realistic.
