God of War: The studio will get serious with its next game

It's a big year for the God of War license. 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of Kratos' Odyssey, from ancient Greece to the Nordic lands of the soft reboot. Despite the changes made in recent years, the public is still there, and PlayStation shows continued confidence in this standard-bearer for its consoles. This confidence obviously extends to the Santa Monica studio, which is currently working on its new production.

Santa Monica Studio is preparing after God of War Ragnarok

There's definitely a lot of recruiting going on at PlayStation Studios right now. It must be said that the next exclusives are eagerly awaited. We'll be getting Ghost of Yotei in October 2025, but what about the next PS5 titles? At Naughty Dog, we've also had a glimpse of the new franchise called Intergalactic, but no date yet. Even more discreet, Santa Monica Studio is in the midst of a talent hunt for a yet-to-be-announced project. A future God of War, perhaps?

We know that things have been going on at Santa Monica for some time. Rumors of a new God of War series, more focused on Egyptian mythology, coincide with those of a return to Greece. However, the studio could well soon give birth to its third in-house franchise since its opening. In fact, the director of 2018's GoW, Cory Barlog, is said to have ambitions for a science-fiction RPG.

Given Santa Monica's latest recruitment announcements, it's clear that the studio wants to strengthen its core team to get to the heart of a project. For example, it's looking for a senior environment artist capable of "respecting the artistic objectives and vision at all phases of the game's development cycle, from pre-production to the release of the final product." Other key creative positions are available, as well as on the programming side, with contracts for C# experts. It seems that we're on a production already underway and for a big game at that. However, the announcements don't give away any clues confirming a new God of War or a new license.
