The Google Drive mobile app is about to simplify one of its most fundamental interactions: content creation. Everything is obviously boosted by artificial intelligence via Gemini, Google's assistant.
A new floating button, more logical and more ergonomic
Until now, pressing the famous "+" button at the bottom right of Google Drive triggered the opening of a panel at the bottom of the screen, listing six possible actions: create a folder, upload a file, scan a document, or launch a Docs, Sheets, or Slides file. This system, while functional, wasn't the most ergonomic, especially if you use your smartphone with one hand.
The latest version of Google Drive on Android (2.25.180.0.all.alldpi) has shaken up this display. All options are now integrated directly into the floating button, which uses the same codes as Google Keep. This removal of the panel at the bottom of the screen improves readability and streamlines the user experience. A small interface detail that might seem trivial, but which makes the application much more intuitive on a daily basis.
Gemini infiltrates Google Drive a little more
Another new feature included in this update: the more prominent presence of Google Gemini. While previously its logo only appeared on the application's home page, it is now omnipresent. From now on, when you explore your documents, a Gemini icon appears in the context menu (the three vertical dots) of each file.
Tapping it allows the AI to summarize the contents of the document, allowing you to preview it without having to open it. This saves valuable time for users in a hurry or drowning in a mountain of files. While Google hasn't made it official yet, all signs point to Gemini becoming a staple of the Drive suite on mobile. Below, you can see the new floating action button in action, as well as the new Gemini integration.
