Google Keep is being transformed to match the aesthetics of Android 16

As Google prepares a major overhaul of Android's aesthetics, its flagship apps are slowly starting to adapt. This is the case with Google Keep, which is experimenting with a new design.

Google Keep adopts the next visual language of Android 16

The Google Keep APK file (version 5.25.182.01.90) reveals concrete signs of the move to Material 3 Expressive, Google's new graphics update. In the note-taking app, this translates into a change to the search bar. Taller, but narrower, it benefits from a more streamlined interface.

The menu (hamburger) and account switching icons migrate to the ends and a filter button appears inside the search field. The indicative text is also replaced: gone is the generic "Search your notes", replaced by a more direct "Search in Keep".

A broader overhaul is on the horizon

Google Keep is probably just one example of this visual transition to Material 3 Expressive, which aims to harmonize Google application interfaces with the new Android aesthetic. A style that aims to be more "expressive" by focusing on color, shapes, and more fluid animations to create a more "emotional" experience. Quite a program.

Our colleagues at Android Authority, who analyzed the code of this version of Google Keep, had already spotted new visual elements in the Android system itself, particularly in terms of animations. A major graphics refresh of Android 16 seems to be in the pipeline, and we should learn more at the Android Show, which will be held on May 13, one week before the 2025 edition of the Google I/O conference. We can't wait.
