Despite numerous assurances to the contrary, the GTA 6 release date has finally been announced via an official statement from Rockstar Games. This is apparently to allow time to fine-tune the process while avoiding overworking the developers. So, now we'll see you on May 26, 2026, for one of the most anticipated games in history, rather than sometime in 2025 as initially announced and maintained by its publisher, Take-Two. Following this shocking announcement, its CEO, Strauss Zelnick, issued a statement to justify such a long delay and the accompanying decision.
Postpone GTA 6 to better explode everything, according to the boss of its publisher
In many ways, GTA 6 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games of recent years, if not of all time. At the time of writing, the Rockstar Games post indicating its release date of May 26, 2026, has over 110 million views. This is one sign among many that the title is being closely watched by the gaming community. Unfortunately, we will have to wait another year almost to the day to join Lucia and Jason in a modernized version of Vice City.
Meanwhile, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, the publisher of GTA 6, issued a statement available on its official investor relations website. "We fully support Rockstar Games and their willingness to take additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto 6, which promises to be a groundbreaking entertainment experience that exceeds community expectations. While we appreciate the tremendous excitement surrounding GTA 6, we remain committed to excellence."
As a message to investors, the Take-Two boss's statement regarding the very distant release of GTA 6 continues in this vein: "As our phenomenal pipeline of games continues to be released [including Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country, Editor's note], we expect to deliver sequential growth increases and record levels for fiscal years 2026 and 2027 for our company and our shareholders." Even though GTA 6 will now be released during Take-Two's next fiscal year, we can bet that it will indeed bring in very big profits for years to come. Verdict however from May 26, 2026, unless further postponement.
