Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Deborah Ann Woll won't be the only ones returning to the spotlight after the cancellation of all Marvel series developed by Netflix. Daredevil: Born Again was just the beginning, as the company with the big ears hopes to capitalize on the success of the Defenders series, which debuted on the American platform in 2015. Rumors were rife regarding the participation of Krysten Ritters, who was spotted in New York several months ago. Ultimately, the actress was invited to take part in the series Dexter: Resurrection.
During its presentation at the Upfronts, a meeting place for streaming platforms, networks, and advertisers, Disney+ confirmed the upcoming return of Jessica Jones. The character is expected to make several appearances in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. It must be said that the grand finale of the first batch of episodes had planted the seeds for a reunion. Indeed, Matt Murdock seemed ready to assemble a team of superheroes to confront Wilson Fisk and save New York City. Jessica Jones will therefore be among his allies in overthrowing the Kingpin who has become mayor.
Cameos?
For now, Disney+ has not specified the importance that the heroine will have for the plot. Punisher, aka Frank Castle, has not had the opportunity to show himself for very long, will the same be true for the detective with superhuman strength? The platform also does not say whether this official entry into the MCU is the beginning of a new era for Jessica Jones. Remember that Punisher will be entitled to a "special" film to continue her journey on our screens. Given the public's enthusiasm for Born Again and this upcoming project, one would be tempted to say that anything is possible.
This is especially true given that Marvel is struggling to convince on the small screen with its productions dedicated to characters born on the big screen. Secret Invasion, Miss Marvel, or even Moon Knight, the Marvel series developed for Disney+ have not met with the expected success, forcing the House of Ideas to make radical decisions and change its approach during the filming of the first season of Born Again.
And the others?
For now, Iron Fist and Luke Cage are not promised an appearance. The two characters were at the epicenter of eponymous series broadcast between 2016 and 2018. They were played by Mike Colter and Finn Jones. The filming of season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, which is currently taking place, could be an opportunity to learn more about the subject. Otherwise, we will probably have to wait until 2026 and the potential launch of this new series to find out for sure.
In any case, after nipping the Marvel franchise developed by Netflix in the bud, Disney+ wants to focus on "street-level" vigilantes to counterbalance its superheroes who face cataclysmic threats in the cinema. It is also the perfect opportunity for the stable to shed its image as an overly tame franchise, less focused on blood and more on the famous thrills and Easter eggs.
