The Met Gala 2025 opens its doors to manga
You may not have followed the Met Gala 2025 because the world of fashion is not your cup of tea, but you should know that this annual fashion event, considered the most prestigious and glamorous in the world, whose theme was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, opened its doors to Japanese pop culture thanks to the American model Alton Mason.
Named Male Model of the Year 2019 by GQ Australia, the 27-year-old model stood out on the evening's red carpet with his outfit, which didn't escape the attention of fans of Hirohiko Araki's cult manga. And for good reason: it was inspired by different characters from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series. similar to those of Jolyne Cujoh, the heroine of the sixth part of Stone Ocean. In addition, her jacket with a heart-shaped cutout on the chest was directly inspired by that of Giorno Giovanna, the protagonist of the fifth part of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure entitled Vento Aureo. Finally, her look was completed with a shiny eye patch giving her a futuristic style.
And this clothing style is absolutely not the result of chance, quite the contrary. It was a thoughtful and deliberate choice on the part of the model and dancer. Indeed, when interviewed by Teen Vogue, Alton Mason made no secret of his love for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure:
I have a favorite anime, it's called JoJo. And this is a tribute. Giorno Giovanna has a cutout, so I decided to include one.
A detail that has fans of the anime on social media excited. Alton Mason has managed to combine fashion and haute couture with pop culture with his creative look. And proof is that Japanese culture has a significant influence on Western fashion.
As a reminder, on April 12, the anime adaptation of the seventh part of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Steel Ball Run, was made official at JOJODAY in Tokyo.
