Unless there's a twist, there likely won't be any more additional content to enrich the game modes and experience offered by Mortal Kombat 1. Released in September 2023, the fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios served as a narrative reboot of the famous bloody versus-fighting franchise. After almost two years of monitoring and maintenance – we're talking about additions to the base game, of course – Mortal Kombat 1 is being re-released in a Definitive Edition, which, as its name suggests, leaves little doubt about the intentions of NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games on the next steps.
Still, with this Definitive Edition – available on PS5, Xbox Series, PC (Epic Games Store and Steam) and Nintendo Switch – Mortal Kombat 1 hits a major blow, particularly in terms of content, since it brings together, in addition to the base game, all the additional downloadable content released and offered since the launch of the game, released exactly thirty years after the first Mortal Kombat. In detail, this gives the entirety of Kombat Packs 1 and 2, and their additional roster of playable characters from pop culture such as the anti-hero Peacemaker (DC Studios), the terrible Omni-Man, directly poached from the successful animated series Invincible, as well as Homelander, the psychotic Superman from the series The Boys. There are also legendary figures from the cinema, such as Ghostface, the killer from the Scream license or the T-1000, the big bad guy from the film Terminator 2: Judgment Day, without forgetting characters from the lore and old episodes of Mortal Kombat like Noob Saibot or Sektor.
Exclusive outfits from the Mortal Kombat II film
The Definitive Edition also includes the Khaos Reigns expansion, which enriches the Story mode of the base game. This version also includes Animalities – final executions in which characters transform into animals and give free rein to their savagery – as well as skins, or rather, in detail, outfits inspired by the Mortal Kombat films. This is the case for Sub-Zero, who has a look taken from the one worn in the last film, released in 2021. But there are also outfits from the sequel, expected this fall, for the characters of Johnny Cage, Scorpion, Shao Kahn and Kitana. The Definitive Edition also includes the Jean-Claude Van Damme skin (voice and appearance) and 1250 Dragon Crystals, the game's virtual currency. Finally, for those who would just like to enrich the edition already in their possession, without having to buy the full game, know that all the content of this Definitive Edition can be purchased separately.
