We're all used to on-demand services now. Between SVOD and games, we've gotten used to catalog updates. In fact, it's a game of musical chairs with these types of services. Content is regularly removed due to the expiry of the rights to make available, while others are added each time. On the video game scene, the Xbox Game Pass had initiated this routine, which was soon implemented on the PS Plus Extra and Premium. The latter welcomes new games with great discoveries to be made.
The new 'free games' of PS Plus Extra
A very varied month awaits you on the PS Plus Extra side. Subscribers to the PlayStation service's mid-tier or Premium plan have access to a games on demand catalog with titles released on PS4 and PS5. This is usually an opportunity to discover a whole bunch of games that we wouldn't necessarily have turned to otherwise. Last month, for example, hit hard with Hogwarts Legacy and the Blue Prince reveal. This week, we're also in a very interesting register.
In fact, the new May releases in PS Plus Extra really offer variety. Fans of the late Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball), for example, will be able to discover the adaptation of one of his lesser-known works: Sand Land. Horror fans will rush to Five Nights at Freddy's Help Wanted while fans of chill experiences like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing can take part in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. We are even pleased to see the excellent management game Humankind, signed by the French company Amplitude Studio, on the list. Finally, on the AAA side, it is Battlefield 5 which promises to blow everything up in the catalog.
- Battlefield V | PS4
- Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted – Full Time Edition | PS4, PS5
- Gloomhaven Mercenaries Edition | PS4, PS5
- Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising | PS4, PS5
- Humankind | PS4, PS5
- Sand Land | PS4, PS5

Only one new release for PlayStation Plus Premium
As usual, the latest monthly PS Plus releases are accompanied by retro gaming additions. After well-known licenses like Jak and Daxter, Armored Core, and Alone in the Dark, Sony is tapping into its niche content. In fact, it's Battle Engine Aquila, a title released on PS2 and Xbox in 2003.
While this new PS Plus Premium game is quite well-liked by critics, this addition has irritated some subscribers. Many regret a lack of major new releases in the catalog of classics. Given the current prices for the subscription, some are even wondering if it wouldn't be worth it to return to a lower formula. It remains to be seen what the PlaySation Plus will have in store for the month of June.
