Rayman is preparing his big comeback, it's now official

Since the excellent Rayman Legends in 2013, Ubisoft's armless, legless mascot hasn't had a starring role in a game. Unfortunately, he's had to settle for a supporting role, notably in the Rabbids games. His last appearance was in Captain Laserhawk, a Netflix-exclusive animated series released in 2023, again in a supporting role. Last month, however, Ubisoft posted several job listings suggesting he might finally be making a comeback in the big picture. At the end of May, new offers were posted in this regard.

Ubisoft is still recruiting for a very big game related to Rayman

The job offers from last April came from Ubisoft Montpellier, for a project that has not yet been announced, but directly refers to the "Rayman brand". The offers that interest us here come this time from Ubisoft Milan. The Italian branch of the French giant is indeed looking for a Senior Game Designer (Source 1) and a Senior Gameplay Animator (Source 2), again for a game that has not yet been announced, but still related to the "Rayman brand".

More specifically, the offers mention a new AAA title, as can be read in the job description for a Senior Gameplay Animator. "Ubisoft is looking for a talented animator who will work on the production of a prestigious AAA game for the Rayman brand." The candidate's mission will be to "ensure that the quality and content of gameplay animations align with the game's vision."

All of this is in line with Ubisoft Montpellier's offers from last April. It would indeed still be a question of a "prestigious game for the Rayman brand." It is therefore possible that the French giant will need several internal studios to realize its vision for this famous title related to its mascot.

As a reminder, Michel Ancel, one of the creators of Rayman, indicated at the end of last year that he was involved in the launch of a "new phase" for this iconic character. However, at that time, it was potentially only a remake of the first opus. Could it therefore be that Rayman will soon have two games in his pipeline? We will have to wait for further official information to be sure.
