The next installment in the Resident Evil franchise is currently in development. This information comes directly from Capcom, as the publisher announced it during one of its online events. While nothing has been shown, it is rumored that Resident Evil 9 is currently in the pipeline. The next big main game in the franchise also continues to be talked about through a multitude of rumors here and there. One of the most reputable informants in the field even recently reaffirmed that the game would soon be shown.
Resident Evil 9 is on everyone's lips
For months now, AestheticGamer, aka Dusk Golem, has been claiming that Resident Evil 9 should arrive by next year. Although he doesn't always aim right, or very broadly, the insider is also known for his very good information, particularly concerning Resident Evil or Silent Hill. This means that without taking everything he says for granted, we can still keep him in a corner of our minds. So when the insider comes back to the charge by reaffirming once again that Resident Evil 9 would be presented this year, that it is "100% sure" for a release next year, we keep an eye on it.
Is the next game announced imminently? It's possible.
It's a bit like stating the obvious, after all. We know that Capcom doesn't like to get mixed up with its big releases. That's why the game was announced, but never revealed since Monster Hunter Wilds was on the way. Now that the monster hunting game is out, Resident Evil 9 can have all the attention all to itself. As we know, Capcom is a pretty good customer of events like the Summer Game Fest, the PlayStation showcases, and the Game Awards at the end of the year.
So it's obvious that they'll be participating this year and will most likely make an announcement at one of these times. Moreover, for the moment, Capcom has nothing else to show, unless a Dino Crisis remake or a release date for Pragmata ends up being pulled out of their hat, but we have little hope for that. It seems almost inconceivable that Resident Evil 9 won't arrive this year.
When Resident Evil 9 will be released, we can already theorize
As for the release, it seems obvious that Capcom will give itself time before releasing its next big title. Usually, the developer presents its game at a big event, then develops it during a dedicated in-house showcase, offers the possibility of testing it via a demo or a beta phase in the case of a multiplayer game, and then the game is finally released. A method that has already been applied to all previous big games, from Resident Evil 7 to Resident Evil 4 Remake, including Monster Hunter World and MH Wilds.
If we follow this reasoning, Resident Evil 9 could be shown this year at one of the big upcoming events. It would then certainly be detailed in detail during a conference just for it, and then a test version would be set up so that players could get close to it. Which finally brings us back to 2026 for a possible release, provided that development goes well. It also remains to be seen whether the studio will try to avoid the monster GTA 6 planned for March 2026 or not, but if we believe Capcom's forecasts regarding the sales of its games for the year, Resident Evil 9 should not be released until after March 2026. For now, these are just theories based on how Capcom operates and what we've heard here and there. For the rest, we'll have to be patient.
