A few weeks before the Summer Game Fest, a time when announcements are made, Resident Evil 9 is getting more and more attention. According to several well-established informants, it is almost certain that Capcom's next big game will be presented there for a release early next year if all goes well. From an official point of view, we know nothing at all except that the game is currently in development and that it is being directed by the father of Resident Evil 7.
Resident Evil 9 could well change everything (once again)
Even if it is silent, that does not prevent Resident Evil 9 from getting talked about through numerous rumors. These are so far the only elements we have, even though we repeat, we must take all this with a grain of salt. It's our dear DuskGolem, aka AestheticGamer, who once again provides information by answering numerous fan questions on social networks. While a user asks him if the game will be in the same vein as Resident Evil 7 and 8, the insider affirms that this is not the case at all. "I hope another first-person RE game sees the light of day. I love RE7 and RE8. But RE9 is definitely designed as a third-person game, and that was always the plan," he declares on X.com.
Resident Evil 9 should therefore be closer to the recent remakes and free itself from the first-person view integrated with RE7. While immersion may take a hit, fans should appreciate this little return to the roots for the main episodes if the information from Dusk Golem is correct.
An episode designed to please everyone?
The informant also mentions rumors that he himself has heard, and not from his own sources, according to which there might be the possibility of switching between points of view, a bit like what is possible in Resident Evil Village Gold Edition. However, he concludes by stating that these are "just rumors", and that for him, "the game will definitely be in third person" without compromise.
Will Capcom make a true return to its roots? It's clearly a possibility. Resident Evil 9 is highly anticipated by fans anyway, with or without this third-person perspective. We just have to wait for new official information to see if everything is proven or if there will be any surprises. All eyes are now on Summer Game Fest, fingers crossed.
