The idea of a portable Xbox has been floating around for some time now, especially since the takeoff of Windows-based console-laptops like the ROG Ally or the Lenovo Legion GO.
The site 91Mobiles may have just gotten its hands on the first traces of it in official documentation. And it would be nothing less than a modified version of the ROG Ally 2. It has just been registered with two official certification bodies, one Indonesian, the SDPPI Postel and the other American, the FCC. When a product goes through this type of phase, it usually means that its release is fast approaching.
Two models were spotted in the list, called RC73XA and RC73YA. Digging back, the site Videocardz managed to get its hands on images of both models. At first glance, we can simply distinguish two colors, one white and the other black. Except that the latter has a very interesting detail.
If you zoom in on the leftmost button, you'll notice the Xbox logo. It probably hasn't received its final coating yet, but there's little doubt that it's indeed a button adopting the Microsoft console logo. This would mean that two versions of the console would coexist.
Similar to SteamOS consoles that are starting to become more widespread, Xbox is reportedly partnering with OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to create a portable Xbox console. That being said, this plan is also not incompatible with the launch of a real console manufactured by Microsoft.
Let's add that this leak reinforces the idea that Microsoft is preparing to finally launch a dedicated interface for its consoles to effectively compete with SteamOS. Indeed, most PC consoles currently run on Windows. A practical OS for the compatibility of different game stores, but not very ergonomic for a console experience.
What to expect from the ROG Ally 2?
The ROG Ally is expected to integrate a new APU, the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme based on the Zen 5 architecture, 64GB of RAM, 1 to 2TB of storage, a 120Hz screen around 8 inches as well as two large battery options, 80 and 99 WHr. Its official announcement is expected around June 2025, during Computex 2025.
