Many people talk about the PS5 and Xbox Series era as the era of remasters and remakes. Amidst dozens of original releases, new ones are regularly announced, it's true. However, some are an opportunity to resurrect old licenses, sometimes unknown to a younger audience. We've seen this again in recent months with the remasters of Legacy of Kain and Croc. And it's not over yet! A historic Sega license is officially about to make its comeback.
Re-dive into a cult Sega title
Lately, Sega games have been popular. Several licenses that we didn't think we'd ever see again have confirmed a strong comeback. In turn, we witnessed the announcement of a new Virtua Fighter, then Shinobi. Alongside these official announcements, rumors are also circulating about other flagship titles in the Japanese publisher's catalog. However, one of these rumors has also just come true.
Many were hoping for a remake of Crazy Taxi or Jet Set Radio, but it's finally Ecco that resurfaces! In a new article, Xbox pays tribute to video game works inspired by the culture of the Asian and Pacific islands. Apparently, it was also the perfect opportunity to talk with Ed Annunziata. This former Sega employee, who founded his own studio, Playchemy, happens to be the creator of Ecco the Dolphin and its sequel, Tides of Time. Now, he has some great news for fans of these iconic Sega Mega Drive titles.
The entire original team and I will be remastering the original Ecco the Dolphin and The Tides of Time games. Then, we'll create a new game, the third, with contemporary gaming and GPU sensibilities.

For the moment, no further details on this marine revival. However, the announcement via an interview conducted by Xbox could highlight some collusion. But let's not jump to speculation. Only one thing is certain for now: we'll hear from Ecco no later than April 25, 2026! In fact, the official website for the license displays a countdown leading up to this date. Could this be the date chosen for the release of the remasters of Sega's cult games? Or that of the surprise new opus? We'll stay on the lookout for the next news!
