Starfield: A big update is available, but not for everyone

After making headlines in 2023, Starfield gradually disappeared from the radar in the months following its release. In fact, the phenomenon is such that even the arrival of Shattered Space, its expansion released in September 2024, seems to have gone somewhat unnoticed. However, Bethesda is not backing down. Last March, the studio confirmed that it was working on new content planned for this year, without providing further details. And indeed, a new update has just been deployed… but not for everyone.

Starfield is being updated with a beta patch

Indeed, as surprising as it may seem, we are currently dealing with a beta version of patch 1.15.224. Therefore, the latter is currently only available to players who own the game on Steam. However, other players can rest assured: this doesn't really seem to be a major update, although the patch notes are dense.

In fact, with the exception of new display settings to improve performance on low-powered devices, the bulk of the new features mainly concern the Creation Kit. It is now possible for creators to add new icons to the game, upload creations up to 2 GB, and finally group them together in the dedicated store.

For the rest, the patch mainly introduces a series of fixes designed to improve the gaming experience, fix bugs, and boost overall performance. The usual stuff, in short. It remains to be seen when other platforms and platforms will also be able to benefit from all this. Because for now, Bethesda hasn't given any information on this subject.

Starfield: A big update is available, but not for everyone

How to take advantage of the beta patch on Steam?

For the moment, this update only concerns a handful of players: those using the beta version of Starfield. This beta update, like the previous ones, is there to allow everyone to get to grips with new features before their time, or to sometimes perform some tests. If you can't download it on the base game, you can still join its beta branch. To be able to enjoy the new features before everyone else, Bethesda gives you the steps to follow:

  1. Open your Steam library and go to Starfield
  2. Right-click on “Starfield” and select “Properties”
  3. In the new window that appears, select “Betas”
  4. In the beta participation drop-down menu, select “[beta]”
  5. Wait for the application to download the new version of the game and launch it
