Switch 2: a target of 20 million consoles for the first year

Only two weeks left until the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. We're entering the final stretch, and players are starting to get impatient. Nintendo can feel it. We learned a few days ago that the Japanese company won't be offering consoles to the press and influencers ahead of the release. Overconfidence? Or is it just being cautious?

In any case, Nintendo doesn't seem very worried, as the manufacturer is revising its sales forecasts and raising the bar. The goal now is to sell no fewer than 20 million Switch 2s during the first fiscal year. Just that.

20 million Switch 2s in the first year?

According to a new report from Bloomberg, Nintendo has reportedly increased its sales forecast and now has a target of 20 million consoles sold for the Switch2 in its first fiscal year, so by March 31, 2026. That's a nice increase of 5 million units, since Nintendo was already planning to sell 15 million Switch2s in that same period. Which was already a very nice goal.

The Switch 2 will therefore be Nintendo's new console that will succeed the first Switch and its 155 million consoles sold since March 2017. With this first console, Nintendo managed to sell 15 million units over the whole of 2017. The objective for the first fiscal year was also 20 million consoles sold.

This shows the manufacturer's strong ambitions and how confident they are. This also confirms the pre-orders, which seem solid. The Switch 2 will arrive on June 5 worldwide. In total, around twenty games will be available at launch, including the highly anticipated Mario Kart World.
