It might be possible to change the stripes on the sides of the Switch 2's Joy-Con to give them a bit more color.
Nintendo has revealed its Switch 2, but while the console is coming out in a month (June 5, 2025), it still has many secrets. One of these could be Joy-Con customization. The base controllers are almost entirely black in their original version (you can check out our Switch 2 hands-on photos here), but it might be possible to swap them out to bring in more color.
A seller on AliExpress has already posted a product page for “Replacement decorative strips for Nintendo Switch 2 left and right controllers”. These allow you to change the side edges of the Joy-Con from black to blue and red. There are two options: one with a blue stripe on the left and a red stripe on the right, and the other with a red stripe on the left and a blue stripe on the right.
Changing the color of the Switch 2 Joy-Con
The second configuration might seem odd, as the left Joy-Con is blue where the joystick and the screen attachment are, while the right one is red. Mixing colors could create a certain aesthetic that appeals to some players, but it could also lead to confusion, especially since each Joy-Con is associated with a color in the Switch system, and a Joy-Con can sometimes be referred to by its color rather than “left” or “right.”
For manufacturers, allowing players to customize their console can help increase engagement with the brand and generate more revenue from accessories. Sony has already tried this with the PS5's interchangeable plates, available in several colors. They were initially marketed by third parties, before the Japanese group took over and sold its own products.
For now, such a possibility has not been confirmed by Nintendo. We therefore wait and see what the real outcome will be. The product spotted on AliExpress includes two decorative strips, a tool to more easily remove the original strips, and a fixing gel.
