Teufel Airy TWS Pro Review: ANC and Long Battery Life

In a market saturated with wireless earbuds, Teufel, a German brand renowned for its audio expertise, intends to make a name for itself with its Airy TWS Pro. Designed for demanding music lovers, these earbuds aim to compete with the industry's leading brands, while maintaining a focus on value for money. After testing the Teufel REAL BLUE TWS 3, it's time to ask what the Teufel Airy TWS Pro are worth.

Handling the Teufel Airy TWS Pro

The Teufel Airy TWS Pro opt for a discreet and modern design. Our test model also benefits from a magnificent color called Cosmic Teal, 4 other colors are available for sale: Misty Green, Night Black, Silver White and Steel Blue. The earphones fit well in the hand and, above all, very well in the ear thanks to the five sizes of antibacterial silicone tips provided. Comfort is definitely there. The case is compact, easy to slip into a pocket, although a little light and the hinge could be improved because it creaks a little on the model I received new.

In terms of handling, we really appreciate the ability to manage a number of things directly from the charging case. You can check the battery status, pair the earphones, or even clear the list of registered devices. To make it work, simply put the earphones in the case and press the button on the case for a more or less long time.

On the earphone side, it works the same way. You have to slide your fingers to raise or lower the volume. Otherwise, you have to press for varying lengths to manage playback, calls, or noise reduction. I don't find this particularly practical, but it's almost systematic on this type of earphone. On the Airy TWS Pro, you still have to press quite hard to trigger an action, which isn't very comfortable to use. However, I personally tend to make settings from my phone in general.

Teufel Go app

Simple and effective are certainly the two adjectives that best describe the Teufel Go app. It works very well and provides very quick access to the essential functions it lists. You can customize the touch controls to prioritize your most used settings. You can also access the equalizer settings (presets or custom) or activate and deactivate ANC or transparency modes. It is also possible to update the earphones' firmware.

We also appreciate the presence of Google Fast Pair for Android users. It's a shame that pairing is done using the traditional method on iPhone, either directly from the Bluetooth settings or the Teufel Go app.

Airy TWS Pro battery life

The data announced by Teufel is accurate. The manufacturer doesn't usually cheat on data. You'll easily reach 7 hours of listening time without ANC (4 hours with ANC) and at moderate volume. So they're durable! Especially since the case offers 25 hours of additional listening time in a very compact size with the added bonus of wireless or USB-C charging.

Audio quality of the Teufel Airy TWS Pro

Teufel remains true to its DNA: the Airy TWS Pro emphasizes balance with bass that is present but not overpowering. Lovers of ultra-powerful bass will certainly have to look at another model. The mids are clean, the vocals well reproduced, even if they could gain in naturalness. The treble, a little recessed, sometimes lacks brilliance, especially on tracks rich in detail, which is really not surprising in this price range and such a compact size.

The rendering remains pleasant and particularly suited to pop, electro or hip-hop. A quick run through the equalizer is recommended to fine-tune the sound according to your own preferences, even if the "neutral" setting demonstrates the brand's expertise.

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)

The active noise cancellation technology offered by Teufel is decent, but not exceptional. It effectively attenuates continuous noise (air conditioning, engine, transport) but remains less effective against voices or unpredictable noises. However, an adaptive mode in the settings can sometimes improve things.

The transparency mode is well calibrated: it allows you to remain attentive to your surroundings without distorting outside sounds, useful in the city or at the office. However, expect a slight change in the listening quality of your music. We can still feel the difference.

On this point, Teufel has done what was necessary without excelling. Considering the Airy TWS Pro's retail price of less than €170, I didn't really expect more, but I would have liked to be surprised.

Conclusion

With the Airy TWS Pro, Teufel offers wireless earphones that are complete, balanced, and accessible, and that hit the mark on the fundamentals. Their discreet and comfortable design, solid battery life, and controlled sound signature make them an excellent choice for users looking for a good compromise between quality and price. The simple and effective Teufel Go app adds to the user experience, as do bonus features like multipoint, source detection, and wireless charging.

Although the active noise cancellation lags behind high-end models, it fulfills its mission adequately for everyday use. The main criticism will concern the unergonomic touch controls and a slightly improvable sound reproduction in the treble.

In summary, the Teufel Airy TWS Pro are positioned as a serious alternative in the premium mid-range, especially for those who prioritize comfort, ease of use and good sound quality without breaking the bank since they are available at €169.99 on the website of Teufel or on Amazon.
