Samsung has been tasked by Apple with designing a screen for its foldable iPhone. And the Californian firm has strict requirements.
Information surrounding the future foldable iPhone is multiplying at the moment. A previous report told us that it should feature a new type of hinge that makes fold marks almost invisible. Additional information has reached us via the leaker yeux1122, and this time concerns the foldable display itself.
According to the source, this is a foldable display developed by Samsung, but one that the manufacturer has never used for its own products until now. One of its main features is that it directly integrates the touch sensor, whereas the latter is usually located in a separate layer. By merging these two elements, Samsung has apparently succeeded in creating a much thinner display than with current technologies. We're talking about a reduction of around 19% in the thickness of these elements compared to the Galaxy Z Fold.
The foldable iPhone would be thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold thanks to screen technology... from Samsung
Samsung would have developed this process to meet the technical requirements of Apple, which wants to launch a relatively thin foldable iPhone on the market from its first generation. Samsung's work to satisfy its customer (and rival) has also allowed it to reduce the thickness of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which will be released this summer. However, this model will not benefit from the screen technology planned for the iPhone, but from a transitional design.
We also learn that color reproduction and brightness power would be greatly improved on Apple's device compared to Samsung's current foldable smartphones. The Apple brand is entering the foldable market many years after its competitors and must justify this delay by releasing a flawless product.
The foldable iPhone is expected to evolve every year. Apple would then release six new models per year: its standard iPhone, its two iPhone Pros, its entry-level iPhone Xe, the iPhone Air with a thin and light design (the first iteration of which is planned for 2025), and therefore the new foldable iPhone, expected in 2026.
