This is good news, just a few weeks before the summer period. From June 2025, the Navigo Liberté+ subscription will finally be available in a digital version on smartphones. A long-awaited development, which aims to change the lives of occasional travelers.
The transition is underway
Since January 1, 2025, the transport fare schedule in Île-de-France has been significantly overhauled. Two single tickets now replace the multitude of existing tickets: the Metro-Train-RER ticket at €2.50 and the Bus-Tram ticket at €2, each also available at a reduced rate. This reform, which aims to make pricing more transparent and encourage the use of public transport, is still far from optimal, with several bugs and double billings recorded for some passengers, but steps are being taken to ensure the sustainability of the new Grand Paris network.
Navigo Liberté+ on smartphone
For tourists and occasional travellers, the Navigo Liberté+ subscription is the ideal solution. It allows you to pay per unit, with advantageous rates: €1.99 for a metro, train or RER journey, and €1.60 for a bus or tram journey (€0.99 and €0.80 for reduced fares), while ensuring you benefit from the best rates based on your exact consumption. Each trip is recorded, and all journeys are automatically charged the following month, without any upfront costs or the need to purchase tickets in advance. An undisputed success, which has attracted more than a million subscribers since its launch.
Until now, Navigo Liberté+ was only available on a physical card. But from June 2025, confirm our colleagues at Parisien, it will be possible to subscribe and use this subscription directly on smartphones, both Android and iOS — Apple having tried for a while to play the recalcitrant, before finally giving in. This development will allow users to validate their journeys simply by holding their phone close to the validation terminal.
The implementation of this feature has been long-awaited. All that's missing now is the annual mobile subscription, this time reserved for daily travelers, to complete this pricing revolution in Île-de-France. This next step, expected by the end of 2025, will complete the transition to all-digital promised by regional president Valérie Pécresse. This promises further increases starting next year, despite the assurance of a constant, but moderate, price increase in the years to come.
