The Fiat Grande Panda 4x4 is just around the corner in concept form. The city car, which has been on sale in France since this year in a fully electric version, is expected to feature all-wheel drive, with a new electric motor located at the rear. The Italian manufacturer, a member of Stellantis, has not confirmed, however, whether it will be a hybrid or fully electric version.
A "global" model, the Fiat Grande Panda has global ambitions and therefore offers both an electric and a mild hybrid version. It was during the tests of the new version equipped with a 110 hp 1.2 petrol engine and 48V hybridisation that it unveiled its new concept.
During the tests of the 100% electric version at the beginning of the year, there was no question of talking about a 4x4 version, even if the city car's off-road style already suggested that the manufacturer's teams saw the Grande Panda as a small off-roader. The first version of the Panda 4x4 is just as historic as the model itself. It was first marketed in 1983.
A Fiat Grande Panda 4x4 versus an R4 Savane
The first illustrations of the Grande Panda 4x4 model show that the car will use the steel rims of the RED version, the least expensive of the trim levels currently offered on the Grande Panda. To complete the off-road look, Fiat added headlights above the bumper, using the pixel format of the main headlights. Others are placed on the roof, next to a rack to accommodate a spare tire.
Fiat strategically presented its concept, which has all the hallmarks of a production version, a few days after Renault did its part, with the presentation of a concept called the Renault 4 "Savane", also equipped with all-wheel drive. The vehicle is planned for its first public outing at the Roland-Garros tournament in Paris.
Among the changes made to the production R4 E-Tech version, ground clearance has been raised by 18 mm to accommodate 225/55 Goodyear UltraGrip Performance+ tires and specific "Savane" rims. The front and rear tracks have also been widened by 10 mm on each side. These elements will mainly tend to reinforce the rugged design rather than the off-road capabilities of the car, which will be much more expensive than the Fiat Grande Panda 4x4.
