The cult series The Office is about to make its big comeback, but in a new form. Entitled The Paper, this new mockumentary will follow the film crew that immortalized the daily life of Dunder Mifflin in Scranton. This time, they head to the offices of the Toledo Truth-Teller, an old newspaper in the American Midwest whose editor is trying to save it from the crisis, not without difficulty.
Oscar is back
The Paper is not a reboot but rather a spin-off set in the same universe as The Office. The series no longer takes place in the offices of Dunder Mifflin, but it promises to retain the ingredients that made it a success. During the NBCUniversal Upfront in New York a few days ago, we were able to see a first official visual, carried by a new cast, but also a familiar face.
In addition to the slew of new extras who will join the editorial staff of Todelo Truth-Teller, an emblematic character from the American series is making a return. This is Oscar Martinez (played by actor Oscar Martinez), who has become an accountant within this new company. His character, who ended the original series with political ambitions, finds a position similar to the one he held in Scranton, but in a new environment. For the moment, he is the only member of The Office to officially join the cast. Oscar will not be at the center of the plot, but his presence bridges the gap between the two series. With any luck, it could open the door to more cameos from the old crew.
In addition to Oscar, The Paper will feature Domhnall Gleeson (as an idealistic new hire) and Sabrina Impacciatore (the editor-in-chief), as well as Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key.
Same Creative Team
Good news for fans, the show remains in good hands, with the participation of Greg Daniels (creator of the American version of The Office) and Michael Koman. Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, creators of the British version, are also executive producers, as are Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas.
This spiritual sequel to The Office will air in September 2025 on Peacock, with no specific date yet. No information has yet been released regarding a broadcast in France. After reboots galore, in Australia and even in France, the series' universe continues to expand, this time in Ohio.
