Microsoft is preparing the arrival of a new Advanced Settings menu with many options. You can see what it looks like right now, we explain how to do it.
Microsoft wants to give you more control over Windows 11. There is no shortage of possibilities to achieve this and among them is the implementation of a new and very complete Settings menu, in addition to the one you are used to. Named “Advanced Settings”, it already appeared at the beginning of May 2025. In order to fill this page, the Redmond firm is unabashedly inspired by the Developer Space menu available in Settings > System.
This is where you'll find, among other things, the option to enable support for the sudo command on Windows 11. Contrary to what you might think, even average users will benefit from using Advanced Settings. For example, they include the “End task” option, which will display an eponymous line when you right-click on a program's icon in the taskbar. If the program is blocked, you no longer need to go through Task Manager to end it.
Here's how to access the new Advanced Settings menu in Windows 11
First of all, make sure you're enrolled in the Windows Insider Program, which allows you to install test versions of Windows 11. Then:
- Download the program ViVeTool.
- Go to C: and unzip the archive, naming the destination folder Vivetool. This will give you the path C:\Vivetool.
- Press the Windows key then X on your keyboard to open a menu and choose Terminal (Administrator).
- Click the downward-pointing arrow to the right of the open tab, then click Command Prompt.
- Type the line C:\Vivetool\vivetool /enable /id:56005157 and press Enter.
- Restart your computer to apply the changes.
Note that contrary to what phantomofearth's post below indicates, the Advanced Settings menu is not yet officially deployed, even in test version. A Windows 11 developer has clarified that bringing it up via ViveTool “doesn’t enable the full experience” unless you “hack” it, without detailing what actions to take.
Microsoft will hold a developer conference next week. So it's a safe bet that Windows 11 Advanced Settings will be addressed at some point, possibly with a full rollout on the Insider channel.
