Tomb Raider: Is the next game announced imminent? It now seems inevitable

But when will the next Tomb Raider finally be formally announced? This is the big question that all fans have been asking for three years now. In 2022, Crystal Dynamics officially confirmed that the successor to Shadow of the Tomb Raider was currently in development, and that it would be built using Unreal Engine 5. And since then? It's been complete radio silence. Not a single piece of information, not a single image, nothing. But that could change very soon.

The next Tomb Raider announced very soon?

That's what we can hope for, at least, if we are to believe NateTheHate's recent comments on X. An insider whose reputation is well established, he was asked by an internet user about the potential announcements we can expect at the Summer Game Fest. The latter then took the opportunity to mention several games, including IO Interactive's James Bond, The Wolf Among Us 2, and Tomb Raider. NateTheHate replied: "At least one of them will be at Summer Game Fest." Which one? It's a mystery. Given the timing, however, it's not impossible that Lara Croft's next adventures will be involved. After all, with at least three years of development under its belt, the new Tomb Raider should at least be able to offer us a nice trailer to get people talking about it again. Not to mention that we'll already be celebrating the franchise's thirtieth anniversary in 2026, and this would be an ideal opportunity for Crystal Dynamics to restart the communication machine. Or even, why not, release the game.

The future of the saga remains to be defined

But let's not get too excited either because at this stage, the fact is that we know absolutely nothing about this future opus. The only thing confirmed to date is that it should reunite the timelines between the original episodes and the reboot trilogy in order to offer fans the best of both worlds. In the meantime, it is fortunately still possible to console yourself by diving back into Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered, which brings together The Last Revelation, In the Footsteps of Lara Croft and The Angel of Darkness on a single disc.
