WhatsApp Web will outperform the mobile app in one key respect

WhatsApp Web will outperform the mobile app in one key respect

Too often, a GIF or video shared in a WhatsApp group becomes impossible to find. The problem is that we no longer remember in which conversation it was sent. To remedy this, WhatsApp is preparing a new feature on its web version: a centralized hub for all media files.

A new section for all your WhatsApp media

WhatsApp is working on an interface that will group together all the files shared in your conversations: images, videos, GIFs, documents, and links. This new feature, spotted in a beta version of WhatsApp Web, will appear in a new tab on the left of the screen, just above Settings.

The goal is to allow you to easily find a file, even if you no longer remember who sent it. The section will include a search with support for captions, sorting by date or size, and specific information for documents and links (such as the sender's name or the date sent). An option will also allow you to select multiple files at once to delete, transfer, or download them in a single action.

A web version more practical than the mobile app

WhatsApp already offers a file management section on its mobile app, but it's less practical. You have to go through the settings, then dig through the categories, without having a real overview. The new WhatsApp Web hub aims to go further by offering a clear, one-click interface with a real search engine and advanced sorting options.

This will be a real time saver for finding a lost file without going through each conversation. The feature is still under development, and no release date has been announced. We hope that an equivalent version will also arrive on mobile.
