Xbox is reportedly preparing the return of several cult and beloved licenses

Xbox and Bethesda are reportedly preparing to soon delight gamers with major announcements, according to a leak of numerous iconic trademark filings from ZeniMax Media, Bethesda's parent company. Can we expect a new Showcase at Summer Game Fest 2025 as strong as last summer's? We might well be right to hope so.

An Xbox Games Showcase 2025 driven by the return of huge Bethesda licenses?

We're fast approaching the beginning of June, a time ripe for big summer video game announcements with the 2025 edition of Summer Game Fest, the replacement for the late E3. From June 6th to 9th, we'll be treated to numerous conferences to see what tomorrow's video games have in store for us. Among the big guests, we have Xbox, which is hosting a Showcase on June 8th starting at 7 p.m. And it could be that Microsoft's gaming branch intends to put on another show.

On the Justia Trademarks site, we can see that ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda, which belongs to Xbox, had filed four strong trademarks on May 6th, 2025. We find big names like the legendary FPS licenses Quake and Wolfenstein, but also Deathloop, and Dishonored. Such new trademark filings generally suggest that new games are in the pipeline. Against all expectations, we could soon see these major Xbox licenses return to the forefront.

After DOOM The Dark Ages, id Software could return to work on Quake. Similarly, MachineGames could return to Wolfenstein after Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle. However, it remains to be seen which studio would handle a possible new Dishonored game that we were no longer expecting, and a potential Deathloop 2. As a reminder, its original studio Arkane Lyon is currently working on Marvel's Blade, and Arkane Austin was unfortunately closed by Xbox following the Redfall disaster. In any case, the 2025 edition of the Xbox Games Showcase should still be rich in strong announcements, including a long presentation dedicated to The Outer Worlds 2.
